The iTalk2Learn consortium have been working hard to develop the platform… So what’s new?
A new language has been added, as well as new usability features
iTalk2Learn is constantly supporting new features as part of the efforts to enhance the platform. In trying to be more open to the world, especially to users/students, the internationalisation module supports a new language: Spanish. Now that the Spanish community can use the platform. this will facilitate new user evaluations in collaboration with our colleagues in Mexico.
Have a look at the following screenshot, which includes the new usability features such as the option to change the application language into Spanish.
New modules and enhancing communication robustness
The platform continues to be improved day by day, integrating with new components and enhancing the user experience, as well as improving the communication robustness with other components already integrated (e. g. the task-independent support).
Another new component that has been integrated into the platform is the ‘perceive task difficulty’ classifier. This is a software module for classifying if the student is in the flow, under-challenged or over-challenged. The classification is used to determine what task should come next. Additionally, it is used by the task-independent support, as an input to tailor feedback according to the affective state of the student.
Additionally, the way the system communicates with the VPS (Vygotsky Policy Sequencer) has been improved and a new conditions module, which will be used for the forthcoming summative evaluation, has been developed.
Affective state logger – mobile app
To finalise the contributions to the platform, and as a support of forthcoming formative evaluations, a new mobile phone application has been developed. It enables researchers to detect and log students’ affective states while they are working with the platform. The affective state logger application will send an email with the affective states as well as a timestamp indicating when they happened. You can find the release of this app in our main repository.
The main features of this application are depicted in the following screenshots.
